Arriving in Quito from Bogotá by airplane is kind of like the twilight zone. These cities, at least at first glance, are so similar. Both are mountain towns, both have similar local architecture, blah blah blah.
One great thing (or horrid, depending on your point of view) is that Ecuador uses the US dollar as currency. SOOOO, no more paying por things in billions of pesos, as pictured somewhere on this weblog. From now on, I shall be reunited with my old friend (enemy?) the greenback, and even better yet - THE SAC! Yup, they use and abuse the dollar coin here, the old year 2000 sacajawhatever.
It is so silly looking that when the man in the store gave it to me for change yesterday, I thought it was fake currency.
For those keeping count, I have literally 4 days left in South America, one of which involves a good lot of airplane travel. Today, I am off for the uber-touristy "middle of the world" attraction on the equator. What trouble I will get myself in for the next few days, we shall only see...
Oh yes, and as things go - Liz found out at customs that she has to leave this country tomorrow. Her flight is on wednesday. May I describe this as "the usual."
