Travel to Cuba is possible for Americans? Could it be?
Just so you and the US government understand this clearly, I am not going to Cuba.
Anyway, here´s the story I was told by a fellow traveller-
I met a dude from the West Coast who claims to have been to Cuba, and recently. He said he booked a flight from Panama, and got around the bazillion rules governing travel to Cuba by simply not having his passport stamped by the Cuban officials. He claims tons of people do this, and that it is a bit of a standard procedure in Cuba.
He told me about the pristine beaches, the crazy rules, the excessive red tape, and how there is a party representative on literally every block acting as a snitch.
When he returned to the states after his long trip, he was barely questioned about the missing period of time in his passport. Is it possible that US citizens can get over to Cuba without being hassled? Wouldn´t it be cool just to see what the story is out there?
I don´t think so. As I have stated before, and will again in writing, I have no interest in, or ties with, Cuba. It´s not worth the hassle from the governments on both sides, and frankly, there are other nice beaches to check out in the neighborhood without supporting Castro´s cult of personality. Still, after reading the Che encyclopedia, you just have to wonder what it is like out there today.
