Cable TV is awesome

I watched SILVERHAWKS yesterday in Spanish. Anybody else remember that show? It was radical.

I love you, Argentine cable which they show in Bolivia. I have 70 channels. 10 of them are Anime. 1 of them is devoted, as far as I can tell, to Anime characters playing soccer. Life is good.

Last night, Liz and I took in the dramatic stylings of Eminem in 8 mile, followed by the oft-unfunny stylings of one Chris Wylde (UGH) as a commentator on some bad VH1 countdown shows. Even subtitled, he is not close to funny.

Tomorrow, we get to watch pimp my ride. Ahhh, cultural relativism!

KT just alerted me to the Wyldeman's VH1 presence which I was completely unaware of. Oh man, I gotta get me on that VH1 sometime. Get me my agent!

Another book everyone RAVES about, and I only enjoyed a little bit. However, this was my very first complete novel read in Spanish, and I'm pretty proud of that. (**)
Khaled Hosseini: the kite runner
I don't know why so many other travellers in South America are reading this, and love it so much. I thought it a bit contrived, and written at an overly dramatic level. (**)
Jon Lee Anderson: Che Guevara: A Revolutionary Life
After reading this book, I respect Che for his conviction, as opposed to his actions, and can now intelligently argue my case with any college student or South America Fidelista. Oh, by the way, it was about 800 pages long, so it is a terrible idea to take it backpacking. (*****)

OK. I've been in Sucre 2 weeks, and heard this song 4 times. That's an incredible percentage of time to spend listening to this song in 2005. By 'incredible', I mean very unfortunate. Honestly, Steve Perry and Huey Lewis really do some of the best solos in this jam. Gotta give it up for Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, and the other random soul singers too. Down with The Boss on this one, he has like 4 solos and he sucks them all up like a Hoover. Just try listening to this song, all glorious 20 minutes of it, and not getting it stuck in your head all day. It's not possible. (***)
