Just one current events post about the surreal crisis in Southeast Asia -
Before I decided to definitely travel in South America, I was considering very seriously Thailand and Vietnam. I decided on Argentina because of two factors, language and price, but could have just as easily settled on the paradise that was Phucket. Right now, I sleep 5 meters from the sea, which i´m told is very close. Stupid metric system.
That said, I just wanted to express how lucky I feel to have not encountered any insurmountable tragedies so far in my travels. I also just felt I should note that I feel a strange responsibility to those countries, because in a certain sense I was spared (by a good decision, luck, who knows?). That said, even though I´m already running through money right now like water (pricey, bottled, mineral water), I will send a long a little dough, through my old buddy Bill Clinton, to help with disaster relief.
If you feel the same, especially if you currently have an income, please do the same. In fact, if anyone has some good links for easy internet-based donations (our favorite), do comment on this entry!
Cheers, good luck, and be safe everybody!
Here ya go buddy.
