The US is earmarking the money for PRO-DEMOCRACY groups. What does that mean? The Palestinians all got together and democratically elected a terrorist organization, and instead of throwing money at them, we blockaded them. Then Rummy said, in reference to Chavez I believe, that Hitler and Mussolini were democratically elected.
If we spend $80mil of your money to influence groups that President Bush personally approves of to win Cuban elections, is that democracy?
I would like to know how we define Democracy this week.
I'm telling you, read the Anderson article - and the Grandin book, "Empire's Workshop," while you're at it. Our fine country has a long and ugly history of so-called pro-democracy efforts in Latin America. El Salvador, Nicaragua, Chile. Given the president and his cronies, many of whom were involved directly with the aforementioned int'l meddling, it seems unlikely that any contemporary democracy efforts would be even remotely democratic. Ah, the examples...
